The He Cares Kids are the Stars at Star City
January 15, 2006
The minute I saw her, my heart
was captivated by her smile! So appropriately was she named
- Angela! She was so excited to try all the rides that I nearly
jumped up and down with her!
Along with 59 other He Cares
Kids, Star City graciously opened its door for a whole afternoon and
early evening with free rides to the kids' delight (and to the
volunteers too)!
Angela's disposition was such
a welcome surprise. She never complained but was always so happy
to be there. All the magic a carnival could give was evident in
her eyes. Though when we asked her if she had any lunch, she
said she didn't have any but wasn't hungry. When we told her to
choose something to eat, without arguing, she took some time to think
and then pointed at the hotdog bun and Zagu drink.
Then the rides and more rides
continued. Our little group of kids and volunteers would pass the
other small groups all around the carnival and everyone was so busy
deciding which ride to try next!
Sometimes, the kuyas and ates
would be the ones too afraid the ride the 180 degree roller coaster and
thrilling log rides! Some kids got frightened by the horror
booths but would ask "What's next?" right after!
In the early evening, Kuya
Robert of TV show Art Is-Kool gave an art workshop to the kids and
their creativity shone brightly!
Volunteers were from Ang
Ligaya ng
Panginoon Community, North-E
District and Nature Awareness group led by Violet Imperial.
Everyone paired up with a He Cares child and 'invaded' star city with
much zest and gusto!
By the end of the
day, one couldn't tell who was having more fun, the kids or the
volunteers!
Wrapping up the evening, we
asked the kids to pray with us for their future. We asked them
what they wanted most of all to pray for. We didn't hear the
usual request of toys or even food. Angela asked for healing for
her father's illness. The others prayed for their parent to find
a job. One asked us to pray that he be able to help her family
soon. True selflessness was so apparent with these children, so
much so that it was hard to part with them.
