A New Home!
............................................................................
Remember the Donate-a-Brick Campaign which we
launched to build a 5-storey building for the He Cares Mission?
Our dream was realized in September 2010 with the purchase of a 425 sq.
meters land in Project 6, Quezon City.
The first month of this year saw Bro. Joe Dean and his team work on
cleaning up the place and building temporary structures. After 2 weeks
of intense blood and sweat work, the ground was cleared and a temporary
feeding area was born.
In January 16, 2011, the first feeding was held at our new center.
Everyone was amazed at the provision of the Lord upon seeing the new
venue.

Microfunding Testimonies
Back to Work Program Update
............................................................................
Two thousand pesos. That’s roughly the cost of a cup
of Starbucks coffee
every day for two weeks. It’s not even enough to buy a good pair
of rubber shoes or a branded dress. However, for Erlinda and her
family, it’s their source of livelihood and daily sustenance.
Erlinda had always been inclined to business. Until she participated in
micro-funding, she was hindered by the lack of capital. Her husband
works as a contractual laborer/carpenter and his compensation is barely
enough to make ends meet. Consequently, she, too had to work or find a
means of earning money.

Stitching Sustenance
The sub-contract with the
Growth Enterprises, Inc. to sew children’s clothes was forged in
May 2010. Some 17 mothers from the He Cares Village in Montalban
underwent training and eventually got the job. At present, only 11 are
actively involved with the project.
According
to them, they are so blessed with the extra income which they get.

I’m
in He Cares
The journey in He
Cares is a God-sent gift to me.
I am not a Christian, but I believe Jesus is there. He cares for those
who believe in him, he loves those who love him.
Because of him,
there is He Cares Foundation, there are kids nurtured under this roof,
there is my wonderful journey in Philippines.

Embracing a Blessing
Back to School Program Update
............................................................................
Balik-Aral Scholar: Verlyn Ocon
In a third world country like the Philippines, to the majority,
education is seen as a privilege rather than a right. Despite
this notion, we still see high school drop-outs for a myriad of reasons
– some understandable, others unthinkable.
Verlyn is the third child of four children. Her parents are what we
would consider ‘nagkabali-bali na ang buto sa kakatrabaho’
(involved in bone-breaking kind of work) just to be able to send their
children to school.
Life has been tough for their family that Verlyn’s older brother
(the second child) has stopped schooling in order to find means of
earning money. However, halting her studies is not an option for
Verlyn.

Embracing a Blessing
Every day at 9, Erika greets the
morning with a smile and prepares to go to school, as if welcoming the
new day and embracing a blessing.
Erika is the eldest of 2 children. Her parents have reversed roles
– mom sets off to work as an office clerk while dad stays and
tends to the household. “My classes span from 9 am to 2:30
pm. My mom leaves the house at 6 am so I'm still sleeping, then
oftentimes she returns at 10 pm already.” So who helps her
with her homework? No one in particular. However, this does
not hinder her from doing well meriting high marks in Kasiglahan
Village Elementary School.

Now Schooling
Leandro and Smith
were surrendered to us in June 2010 by the Compassionate
Franciscan sisters of the Poor, based in Naga City.
These boys were abandoned by their mother in 2004 allegedly to find
employment. But since then, nothing has been heard of her.
Their father resorted to scavenging in order to provide for his family.
But one sad say, he was beaten up by unidentified men and left for
dead.
