Balik-Aral Program:
September
2009 Update
(Back to School)
God Provides!
The program has been blessed with so many tutors from different universities
in Manila and Quezon City. As part of their practicum, these students
are required to spend at least 30 hours in community service. The
participating schools are U.P., PUP, FEU and UAP.
They come every Saturday, some even on weekdays, to help our scholars with
Math and English subjects. It seems like all their efforts are paying
off! After the First Grading Period, the grades of our kids have
improved markedly. But more importantly, the kids have become more
confident and excited to go to school.

From
A Nobody to a Historical Figure
By Pao Antonio
To
learn is one thing. To empower the
next generation is another. The first one equips, the latter leaves a
legacy.
This is the battle cry of one of our scholars, Andrea “Andy” Cabarles (9).
She is currently on her fourth (4th) grade at Bungad Elementary School,
Quezon City.
She lives in a squatters’ area “with no hope whatsoever,” Andy said.
Learning can only be done by watching television through the window pane of
the door neighbor. Going to school and finishing school is way farfetched.
But Kuya Joe Dean Sola saw something beyond the poverty. Andy is now given
the right to be formally schooled. Aside from the educational plan, she also
receives free tutoring for math and science from generous people every
Saturday.
She ended our little chat by saying the following: “My passion is learning
more about history. I would like to educate eventually.”
