We at He
Cares want to share the blessing of being able to change a life!
You
can do this by giving whatever you wish to share with the kids!
You may share your time as a volunteer, share your resources, whether
your livelihood skills, extra food, clothes, books or financial
support. Please read our stories below. Also feel free to
ask us about these things if you need to clarify something.

Through
the years, many volunteers have been enriched by the time they spent
with the children. Some came all the way from France (see Vince's
picture at left).
By
spending an hour or two with them, you will know that they have touched
your life powerfully in more ways than you'll ever know. You will
surely receive more than you will give.
Anyone
can volunteer. You don't have to be a professional social worker, or
teacher, but you have to have a heart that is open and willing to help
the children. Come and join us! We will find something for
you to do (and we are open to suggestions!).

is one man's story...
A Call
to Serve:
How I Came to Know My Mission
in Life
by Boy Sobere
Since I was in college, I had a penchant for food and
whenever I had extra money, I liked to treat my friends and classmates
to a nice restaurant. I like feeding people. Later on, when
I graduated from college and began to work in Manila, I also realized
that I have a heart for the poor.
One time when I read in the newspaper a story of a poor
little girl in Malate, who out of poverty and the insistence of her
mother, was forced to work as a prostitute to support her family, I
felt my heart grieved and broken. I felt her pain, but could not
help her. It was the first sign of the call that God has placed
in my heart to serve the poor, even though it would take several more
years for this call to be made clearer and firmer.
From that time on, the pain in my heart continues
whenever I see in the streets of Metro Manila the plight of the
poor. The sight of little boys and girls barely clothed, no
slippers and with malnourished bodies grieves my heart. It was then that I started
to give food, money and clothes regularly to them whenever I had extra.
It was several years from this time I joined the Light
of Jesus Community that I was able to discover my mission in life - to
serve the poor. It was during one of our retreats where God
revealed and confirmed to me what was actually already there in my
heart - the lifetime mission to serve the poor especially the children.
When I was going through the entire exercise of the
retreat - prayer, meditation and listening to the talk of Bro. Bo, I
felt inner peace and everything went on smoothly.
At the end, when I had written my mission statement in
a piece of paper, I felt joy, peace and a sense of certainty of what I
wrote.
Now I had my mission in life, where do I go Lord?
One day this question was answered when one of the sisters in the
community invited me to serve the streetchildren. She gave me an
address. That was the beginning of my service.
I am now in my 4th year in the He Cares Foundation.

Dear Friend,
The
He Cares Foundation invites you to be a channel of God’s blessing
to the poor.
For many years now, the He Cares Foundation has been
providing for the physical and spiritual needs of local street
children. At present, an average of 40 to 50 children benefit from the
once-a-day feeding accompanied by daily prayer and bible sharing. The
drop-in center also gives these children a place to go in case of
emergencies, such as illness. In addition, the foundation is currently
working with the Red Cross to educate these children and their families
on health and nutrition and is in negotiations with DECS to allow the
center to provide credited non-formal education.
But there is still so much to be done. The ultimate vision of the
foundation is, of course, to get children off the streets and enable
them to live healthy, safe, normal lives and become happy and
productive individuals of our society. Among other things, we would
like to increase feeding to three times a day, provide a permanent
shelter, and increase educational (click here
for more info on education) and livelihood programs. But we
can’t do it alone. We need your help.
You can make a difference in the lives of
these needy children. In
their name, we ask that you share whatever you can with them. Join us
in our mission and let us all be channels of God’s
blessings.
In Christ,
Bro. Joe Dean Sola
