Servant's Note
What's in a Name
Coming up with a name for the Foundation was
not easy. I started off by praying to the Lord to inspire me. I wanted
something that will glorify His name, of course! The first name was "Heart
Soup".
I thought that feeding the poorest of the poor meant offering your whole
heart. But it sounded selfish because it was your heart that you were giving and not
God's. Scratch!!!
How about "Abba's Care". But not all people
know the meaning of the word "Abba". Or they might associate it with a
foreign singer group.
The next was "J" Cares. No, I do not want the
"J" to stand for my name Joe Dean. I buried myself in scripture and prayer
until I encountered the verse in 1 Peter 5:7.
I felt a different sense as if the
Lord was showing me the people He wanted me to serve. Those who are heavily
burdened, full of anxieties, abused, wounded, rejected. The verse echoed in my heart
the whole day. "Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."
I asked the Lord for a sign - a rainbow to confirm if this indeed was His
inspiration to me. The following day, a rainbow appeared in the sky. Thus the
name HE CARES was born.
